I had the opportunity to go to a DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 5th Edition) training. All the negative myths about it have been dispelled, in my humble opinion. There are so many great changes that it is not until you get beyond the hearsay, you begin to realize the changes and what this will mean for treatment purposes. DSM-5 is going for a collaborative means of diagnosing and looks at the individual from gender, culture, and development across the lifespan. It is broad and going to a world wide look at diagnosis. It is no longer a cookbook, but it is a guide book and allows the clinician to use their judgement in diagnosis. Again, it is done in collaboration. All the myths are dispelled.
